I am a thirtysomething rhetoric graduate student and assistant instructor, nearing my Ph.D. My professional interests concern American politics, pedagogy, and public discourse.
This is my first blog. I've read other people's blogs for over ten years, and the start of a new year--the seventh of the twenty-first century--seemed a propitious moment for me to throw my own hat into the electronic ring. Apparently this Internet fad isn't going anywhere.
The purpose of this blog is to warehouse all the bits of flotsam and jetsam that catch my attention as I surf the web, and to provide a space allowing me to transmit those bits, and my comments on them, to my friends, my family, and any other interested people who stumble along.
It's going to be a highly opinionated space, but not a particularly personal one. Still, I hope it's engaging and personable for readers. The views expressed are my own, often reactionary, often unfiltered. Sometimes I will go back and make amendments to earlier statements, either after subsequent critical reflection, or in reaction to comments. My resolution is to post nearly daily. Comments welcomed.
I am originally from Indiana, but currently living in Austin, Texas. I have been married for seven years to a strongwilled and lifeaffirming woman who owns and operates a personal gardening business.
I have two cats.
